I’m just starting to loose my hair, and I am unsure whether or not to try those hair-growing drugs that are on the market . . . are they safe?

You are referring to minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia). Many of our patients have tried these drugs with results varying from marginal peach fuzz with Rogaine and slightly better results with Propecia. These drugs also have major side effects that include impotence and possible birth defects in pregnant women. There are much safer methods of treating early hair loss.
